Virtues

One Falsely Suggested Rank of Angels
in the Celestial Hierarchy

There are thought to be nine celestial orders of Angels: Colossians 1:16

1. Seraphim
2. Cherubim
3. Thrones
4. Dominions
5. Principalities
6. Powers
7. Virtues (Falsely Suggested)
8. Archangels
9. Guardian Angels (Suggested by the Catholic Church)

There is however, no concrete Biblical proof of the exact ranking order or importance of the different angel groups. The same could be said of the members of the body. “18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.19 And if they were all one member, where were the body? 20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.” (1 Corinthians 12:18-21). Only the Lord GOD can say what the orders of importance the angels take.

It is unclear from where the name of this order originated. The Catholic Church refers to the Virtues (sometimes referred to as "the shining ones") as the spirits of motion that govern nature, have control over seasons, stars, moon and sun, as well as in charge of miracles, and providing courage, grace and valor.

Virtues are also named by 6th century theologian Dionysius the Areopagite. He claims they are the fifth rank of angels. Dionysius claims they specifically preside over the elements of the world and the process of celestial life as they maintain a watch over nature.

There is no Biblical proof of Virtues as being one of the celestial orders of angels, nor is there evidence of the roles suggested by the Catholic Church and the theologian Dionysius the Areopagite.

Virtue is used in the Word of God to describe the miraculous power within Jesus Christ...

“And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed. And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed [them] all.” (Lu 6:17-19 AV)

“And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.” (Lu 8:46 AV)

To suggest that Angels control the miracles done through Jesus Christ borders on blasphemy. This belief disregards the Spirits of the LORD GOD as they manifested and guided the essence of Jesus Christ as he performed miracles in accordance with the Will of the LORD GOD.

The virtue that left Jesus Christ in the performance of the miracles was an actual part of the Spirit of God, and not some gathering of angels of middle ranking conceived by the Catholic Church or free thinking man.

WARNING!

We are warned NOT TO WORSHIP ANGELS! Let no man defraud your reward by delighting in false humility and worshiping of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind. (Colossians 2:18).

John saw the prophecy of the book of revelations and after which he saw and heard all that he was permitted he fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which had showed him all those things. The angel told him NOT to bow down he was a fellow servant, and a brother of the prophets, he should worship the LORD GOD. (Revelation 22:8-9).

We are warned not to get caught worshiping or serving the sun, moon, stars, or the host of heavens (angels), which the LORD GOD has not commanded. This is an abomination. (Deuteronomy 17:3-5; Deuteronomy 4:19).
