The Tribe of Kedar |
|
Kedar, a son of Ishmael Ishmael was the first son of Abraham and Hagar, the Egyptian handmaid of Sarah, the wife of Abraham. Sarah (Sarai) could not bare Abraham (Abram) any children. Sarah told her husband to obtain children by her handmaid Hagar. Sarah and Abraham dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan. Sarah gave Hagar, her Egyptian maid, to her husband Abraham to be his wife. Hagar conceived and saw she was despised in the eyes of her mistress. Sarah told Abraham that her wrong would be upon him. She gave her maid to him and when she conceived Sarah was despised in her eyes. Sarah said the LORD judges between me and you. Abraham reminded Sarah her maid was in her hand to do as she pleases. Sarah dealt hardly with her. Hagar fled from her face. The Angel of the LORD found Hagar by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur. Hagar told the Angel of the LORD she had fled from the face of her mistress Sarah. The Angel of the LORD told Hagar to return to her mistress, and submit herself under her hand. The Angel of the LORD said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it shall not be numbered for multitude. Hagar was told she would bear a son and shall call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction. Hagar did as she was told by the Angel of the LORD. The two sons of Abraham were Isaac whose mother was Sarah, and Ishmael whose mother was Hagar the handmaid to Sarah. Hagar's son Ishmael would be a wild man. His hand would be against every man, and every man’s hand against him. He shall dwell in the presence of all his brothers. (Genesis 16:1-12). These are the generations of Ishmael; the firstborn was Nebaioth; then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. These are the sons of Ishmael. (1 Chronicles 1:28-31). Kedar was the second son of Ishmael and the tribes of the Kedarites(Genesis 25:13). The tribe of Kedar was a nomadic tribe who lived in a place called Meshech. (Psalm 120:5). The Mesechites and Kedarenes were Eastern tribes. Mesechites is a son of Japheth, a son of Noah. (Genesis 10:1-2). The Kedarities lived in Arabia (part of the Arabian Desert known as Saudi Arabia today). All the princes of Kedar were merchants and traded with lambs, and rams, and goats. (Ezekiel 27:21). All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister to The LORD they shall come up with acceptance on the altar of the LORD and the LORD will glorify the house of His glory. (Isaiah 60:7). The prophecy against the desert of the sea said all the glory of Kedar shall fail. The residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: for the LORD God of Israel has spoken it... “For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail: And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: for the LORD God of Israel hath spoken [it].” (Isa 21:16-17 AV) The prophecy of Jesus Christ coming to the Gentiles included a word to the wilderness and the cities, and the villages that Kedar inhabited. These inhabitants of the rock were instructed to sing and shout from the top of the mountains, give glory unto the LORD GOD, and declare his praise in the islands... “Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, [and] them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. I [am] the LORD: that [is] my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them. Sing unto the LORD a new song, [and] his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof. Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up [their voice], the villages [that] Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains. Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands.” (Isa 42:5-12 AV) The prophet Jeremiah delivered a prophecy concerning Kedar and Hazor (A district in Arabia; presumed by some to be Jetor, that is, Ituraea) from the LORD GOD... “Concerning Kedar, and concerning the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon shall smite, thus saith the LORD; Arise ye, go up to Kedar, and spoil the men of the east. Their tents and their flocks shall they take away: they shall take to themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels; and they shall cry unto them, Fear [is] on every side. Flee, get you far off, dwell deep, O ye inhabitants of Hazor, saith the LORD; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath taken counsel against you, and hath conceived a purpose against you. Arise, get you up unto the wealthy nation, that dwelleth without care, saith the LORD, which have neither gates nor bars, [which] dwell alone. And their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their cattle a spoil: and I will scatter into all winds them [that are] in the utmost corners; and I will bring their calamity from all sides thereof, saith the LORD. And Hazor shall be a dwelling for dragons, [and] a desolation for ever: there shall no man abide there, nor [any] son of man dwell in it.” (Jer 49:28-33 AV) |
